Greetings everyone,
It’s my first newsletter back after my European adventure for the last 8 months. I am really grateful for the experiences, lessons, and memories I made. It’s important to be prudent and think about the future. But life is short — do the things you want to now if you can.
I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us.

✏️ Production > Consumption
Written on November 1st, 2020 by Me.
It is always easier to consume rather than produce. Whether that be for the writer, the artist, or the musician, producing is the most important factor in developing skill and your own unique style. Consumption has a role, however, it is easier, especially with social media, Youtube and the like, to resort to consumption instead of facing the struggle of production. Writing for me is a lot like running: there is a space of friction that exists between thought and action -- I need to force myself to sit down and lace up my shoes, or sit at my desk, and just start before the process begins. Writing is something that cannot be substituted through any amount of reading or study. One must simply pick up the pen and write.

In Praise of Idleness
By Bertrand Russell
Being a highly virtuous child, I believed all that I was told and acquired a conscience which has kept me working hard down to the present moment. But although my conscience has controlled my actions, my opinions have undergone a revolution. I think that there is far too much work done in the world, that immense harm is caused by the belief that work is virtuous, and that what needs to be preached in modern industrial countries is quite different from what always has been preached.
Evidence-Based Practice Should Supersede Evidence-Based Medicine
By Siegel et. (2023)
On the surface, the benefits of evidence-based medicine (EBM) seem self-evident. However, reliance on the scientific literature alone has limitations. Studies may be biased, statistically fragile, and/or not reproducible. Reliance solely on EBM may ignore physician clinical experience and individual patient characteristics and input. Reliance solely on EBM may overvalue quantitative, statistical significance, resulting in a false sense of certainty. Reliance solely on EBM may fail to consider lack of generalizability of published studies to individually unique patients. The concept of evidence-based practice goes beyond EBM and incorporates (1) EBM, (2) clinical expertise, and (3) individual patient characteristics, values, and preferences. Even if branded as evidence-based, a suggested treatment may not be the best treatment. Evidence-based practice must be considered before determining what is best for our patients.
