✏️ On History
History is a glimpse into the future. Nations rise and fall and people come and go, but human nature never changes — the stories of the past simply repeat themselves with new characters in new settings.
I got my love from history through my interest in military strategy. I spent many days and nights playing strategy games and watching the history channel on TV. In doing so I learned valuable lessons from ancient history and philosophy about human nature. The same traits that made leaders like Julius Caesar and Napoleon attractive and powerful still hold value today. People want to be a part of a community; people want security and a future for their children; people want justice when justice is due. Individuals who can promise, or even better provide such benefits will always find supporters, whether that be in 2021 AD or 2021 BC.
There is a beautiful story to be told in learning the history of the world. Countries like England, France, Egypt, and China have rich histories that go back many centuries, and there are pivotal movements and fascinating individuals who triggered monumental changes in the fate of a nation.
History is more than just a recollection of facts. It's the story of the times, of the people that bled the same blood that you do, who grew on the same soil that you now raise your children on.
History is your story.

📖 Book of the Week — Users' Guides to the Medical Literature: Essentials of Evidence-Based Clinical Practice by Gordan Guyatt
Clinical practice is guided by the scientific literature; conducting rigorous, reproducible, and high-quality research is essential to providing the best care for patients. This book (which is one of my textbooks for grad school at the moment) is a comprehensive exposition of the principles of evidence-based medicine and will give you the tools you need to “differentiate good medical evidence from that which is inadequate or misleading.”
