✏️ On Goal Setting
Setting goals is a common practice for many people, particularly in the new year. However, the benefit from goal-setting does not come from the attainment of the goal itself, but the processes and actions that are put into place in the pursuit of that goal.
Let us use the classic example of a gym practice or weight loss goal as a New Year’s resolution. If one makes the goal of losing 20 pounds by the end of the year, to reach that goal will require certain lifestyle and attitude changes to make that a reality. You will have to become a person who is disciplined in your diet and goes to the gym every day, even when you don’t feel like it. You will, in essence, have to become a person who is able to delay short-term pleasure and gratification in the exchange of potential rewards in the future. This transaction of short-term pleasure for future success is the crux of all goal-setting — you must give up a part of your old yourself in order for a new self to be born. It is not so much about the 20 pounds, but more so about the journey and transformation along the way. This principle applies to most goals, whether they be professional or personal in nature. In order to achieve something you have never had, you need to do something you have never done.
Lifestyle and mentality transformation is the key to initiating change and unlocking potential in your life.

Many of us have heard of the Mongols. They are infamous conquerors, and under the leadership of the great Chinggis Khan they created one of the largest empires the world has ever seen. This book is a deep dive into The Horde, which was more than just a military superpower — it was a rich and unique cultural, social, and political entity that left a lasting impression on Europe, Russia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

For one human being to love another human being: That is perhaps the most difficult task that has been given to us, the ultimate, the final problem and proof, the work for which all other work is merely preparation.

💡 Food for Thought
If you can avoid it, never make a critical decision in the heat of the moment. Always take time to reflect, removed from the emotion of the situation.
